One Step from Eden supports local multiplayer allowing the player to either play Co-Op or PvP, both modes have slightly different rules in comparison to the single player experience or alternative builds, but the majority of the game almost remains the same.
Co-op[ | ]
Co-Op allows you to play the full single player experience with another player, you can beat the game entirely this way similarly to single player with no less conditions, including getting achievements, however there are few changes that were done to make the Co-Op experience bearable and not that frustrating:
- Both players play the same Hero, with one of the two have a custom texture tint meant for Co-Op and help differentiate between the two.
- Both players share Healing effects, Money, levels, artifacts, Mana and the Deck, because of the last 2 being shared, each player has 1 spell slot, Player 1 cast the left slots and Player 2 cast the right slot.
- The starting Mana Regen is doubled, acquiring Mana Vein, Manajam, Blue Flame and so on do not give twice the mana, same applies to reductions in Mana Regen from Giant Armor and Mother.
- Dead players respawn with 100 HP at the end of each battle, sparing Bosses does not count as "end of the battle" negating the 400 healing to the other player, the dead player will respawn after the next "Battle Won" prompt appear, if you spared a boss before the final boss, the player will remain dead as there's no more battles to fully "win" (e.g. Terrable and Eden Gate).
A few additional notes to clarify:
- Donate Blood and Blood Shop in general takes HP from both players so caution is advised.
- The top left bar will showcase one of the two players health, not both.
- Both players can Shuffle the deck at will which affect both players simultaneously.
- Auto shuffle will never happen if one of the players is dead and their slot has a spell in, the alive player needs to forcefully shuffle to solve this, Duel Disk soft lock the game unless you have a weapon to end the battle or able to cast Gambit.
- Dead players do not release their slot back to the other player but that slot will no longer insert spells inside allowing the alive player to cast all the spells in the deck from their slot.
PvP[ | ]
Play against another player, each player can choose their own Hero including choosing the same hero from both, the PvP kits are slightly modified from the default kits for balancing reasons or to make them functional (such as Selicy having Shield Battery instead of Bulwark), while very few spells, artifacts and mechanics were slightly modified (e.g. Lynchpin will always deal the same exact damage no matter how many times you fire), on top of those PvP kits both players receive 8 additional random spells that has the PvP tag applied to, both players would have the same exact 8 spells with the addition of 4 unique ones from their own kit, resulting in a total of 12 spells.
PvP kits[ | ]
There are 4 PvP kits that are unlocked by default regardless if you even unlocked some of those heroes in single player mode, the other heroes require a certain condition to be unlocked, see the kits's "Unlocked by" below for more info.
